Hello Kinesthetic, Musical, Linguistic students!

How cool, I loved reading your responses and hearing about your results with the multiple intelligence survey. The survey you took was just one method of estimating what type of learner you may be.
I thought it was interesting that 4 out of 6 of you scored high as kinesthetic learners, and 3 out of 6 of you scored high as linguistic learners, 2 out of 6 scored high for musical learning, and 1 out of 6 of you scored high for either mathematical, intrapersonal or naturalistic.

1. How might this makeup of learners influence the learning environment in this health class? Looking at your own high scores, what types of activities might best help you learn concepts in this health class?
2. Thinking about the areas where you might have scored lower, what are some strategies that you can come up with when you might have to do work in those types of areas?
An example of this is the following:
A student scores pretty low in interpersonal types of activities but higher in intrapersonal activities. In other words, she prefers to work alone. At times this student may have to work in a group. It is an important part of emotional health to recognize what type of learner you are and where your weaknesses may be. This student may set goals for herself for participation to overcome her tendencies to refrain from sharing her opinion in a group.

3. Many people have discussed the possibility of a new type of learner, an "electronic" or "tech" learner, due to the many advances in technology over the past ten years. What is your reaction to this possible type of learner? What characteristics might this type of learner have? Do you think this is one of your strengths?

So, now that we know ourselves a bit better and have thought about what types of learners we are and where we may struggle, we are going to know talk about habits. In Sean Covey's book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens", the author outlines the following 7 habits;
1. Be Proactive- Take responsibility for your life
2. Begin With the End in Mind- Define your mission and goals in life
3. Put First Things First- Prioritize, and do the most important things first
4. Think Win-Win- Have an "everyone- can win" attitude
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood- Listen to people sincerely
6. Synergize-work together to achieve more
7. Sharpen the Saw-Renew yourself regularly

Have a class discussion about these habits. Do you think they are all equally important? Are there any you do not agree with? If you had to rank them, what would be the most important and least important?

I would like you then to post a reaction to your class discussion. This means post your thoughts on the discussion, what went well, what could have been improved, how the discussion made you change your thinking or if it made your thinking stronger.

  1. Question: How might this makeup of learners influence the learning environment in this health class? What types of activitys might best help you learn concepts in health?

Well, the two different catagories that I scored on highest was Music and Math. With music, one could incorperate making notes musical. If I hear a song that I like, then I usually remember the whole thing. If notes or other things were in musical form, it might help me remember the notes. When including math, one could explain something or write something in an ecuation.

  2. Question 1.
I think since we have a lot of different kind of learners, I think maybe we could get new ideas and maybe even learn differently. Maybe it would give new learning ideas for the teachers. Now looking at my own high scores, I would like to do hands on and maybe listen to music while we do our work because music helps me a lot.
    Question 2.
I think since I got lower on intrapersonal, maybe we could start working alone more and maybe even go outside for the people who got naturalistic. That would actually make me focus more too.
    Question 3.
I think that maybe that could be possible because some people feel more comfortable with it in front of them or maybe reading something on the screen might calm them. That's my idea

  3. 1. I think it would be best for me if we did hands-on activities. I think the make up of learners in this class would make the influence the learning in this classroom to be good and we will probably be doing hands on activities and other things like that.
    2. I scored low in mathamatics, and I could do puzzles games or something to improve that. I also scored low in interpersonal, but I think it will be okay because I'm okay with small groups, mabey at the most, working with ten people and in this group, there are seven, counting the teacher.
    3. I think that might be one of my strengths, but I'm not that good at the technical difficulties... I think these people would be good at computers and programs and spend a lot of time on them. My reaction is that I don't think this is possibility, I think that some people are this type of learner.

  4. Question 2.

With me, I scored lowest in Nature. I don't like bugs, snakes, worms, and basically anything that has less or more than four legs. To me, these things I hate sooo much, that I can actually be scared of things like worms and bugs. A good way for me to be more comfortable with something like this would probably be in the same presence and (I hate to say it) but tuch or get used to things like bugs.

  5. Question 1: i am a Bodily/Kinesthetic Learner i think we could make games and move around since we are always in the classroom sitting.

Question 2: i scored low in Logical/Mathematical Learner i think it would help me if i worked on problem solving more.

Question 3: i think the characteristic's of a "teach learner" would be, not social, very visual and is interested in technology. I think Technology can help you depending on the type of learner you are. I think it could help because of the resources such as, word, power point and excel.

  6. Question 3.

I do not belive that there can be a "tech" learner. If one is going on to the computer to look something up, then it's not the computer that they need, it's the information that they're looking up that they need. Some people might like to see pictures ON THE COMPUTER, but, it just shows that they are a visual learner because it's the picture that helps them understand.

  7. Question 1- Since I scored high in the the naturalistic I think instead of staying inside maybe we could go outside and and do our work out there.

Question 2- I scored the lowest in intrapersonal so I think I should work on doing projects on my own and having my own space.

Question 3- I think the characteristics of a tech or electronic learner might be they are interested in technology. Would rather stay indoors playing video games than playing outside and enjoying nature. They probably enjoy fixing things like computers, phones, i pods, etc. And is probably not very social.
