Hello Class!
I am sorry there was some confusion and problems with posting last week. All should be set now, and you should be able to post as anonymous if you do not have a Google email address. Please be sure to sign your name so that I know who has written the post.
Another way to be sure you do not loose all that you write is to write your post in a word document, save it, and then cut and paste it into a post. That way, if there are any problems, you can email me the document and I will know that you did the work.
This week, if you were not able to post, I would like you to post your answers to questions one and two. Please post your answers on to that post, not this one.
If you were able to post ( Kalden and Hannah and Max) , or once you have posted, please continue reading for today's activities.
Today Assignments:
Please click here for a reading on various definitions of what health is.
After reading this article, the various definitions, the descriptions of physical and emotional aspects and factors that can effect health, please write about two things that were most interesting to you, that possible made you want to learn more or investigate more. Maybe these two things just made you think or surprised you.
Remember, I am looking for clear posts, with explanations and evidence for what you claim. This means that I am looking for more that one sentence posts......take your time posting, think hard and reread your work to see that is makes sense. Check your spelling and grammar for your best work.
Next, go to http://www.ldrc.ca/projects/miinventory/miinventory.php and take the multiple intelligence test. When you finish, it please write me a post telling me where your "peaks" or high scores were. Part of being in good health is understanding yourself and what type of learner and person you are. After finding out where your peaks were, answer the following questions: ( if you are unsure about any of the intelligences, please use the website to read further descriptions of the ones you are unsure about)
1. Where are your "peaks" OR strengths?
2. How might this effect you in school? How might it help you or make things harder for you?
3. Were you surprised by any of your peaks, or did your profile fit in with what you know about yourself?
After, please make a class chart or tally showing what types of learners we have in this class. You can use whatever format the class chooses. Please have one volunteer take notes and email me or post the results.
I took the same multiple intelligence survey. I came out with peaks highest in "naturalistic" and "visual /spatial" and "interpersonal". 5>How do you think my intelligences that might effect how I am as a teacher?
Course Description
The NHASA health class is a full year class that will cover the content areas of community health, consumer health, environmental health, family education, growth and development, personal health, nutrition, disease prevention, safety and substance abuse. The online course is based on the "Differentiated Health and Sexuality Education Activities Booklet" by Leslie Pettigrew and will use various types of activities such as group discussions, cooperative activities, role-play, videos, guest speakers and research projects to meet state mandates for health requirements. There will be a teacher advisor present during all class times to assist students in completing assignments. Students will meet two days a week to complete activities online and in small groups. Students will learn to access valid health information, products and services, advocate for personal, family and community health, analyze media messages, use communication skills, use decision-making skills, set goals, acquire conflict resolution skills, refusal skills, learn to manage stress and develop an appreciation for the diversity of our student body.
I think the only thing that was really interesting was the history and where the word "health" came from. Otherwise, nothing else was interesting to me. What I would like to learn in health is probably mental and emotions and how that can effect your health. That's what I'm interested in.

On the "definition of what health is" web site, I found the Eduational part of health to be very interesting. How people with a lower education generally have a higher risk of experiancing poorer health. This just proves that Eduacation is even important when dealing with ones health. Also, the cultural aspect of health caught my eye. I found that it made a lot of sence to me that even just people can make a difference in ones sociaty.

I took the test and I was mostly Body/Kinesthetic and music. I love music. That's probably why that's one of my strengths. I don't like making music but I love listening to it. Body/Kinesthetic is probably in my strength group because I do gymnastics. The lowest score was Intrapersonal. I was sort of surprised about the intrapersonal because I usually work alone when I'm at school. I think maybe the test was a little off but it was pretty close.

I think maybe since you are high in the "visual/spatial" area, maybe we will be using more hands-on or maybe more visual exercises. Also maybe since you are in the "interpersonal" area you may help us more on the work and more teacher, student work.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: How did you do on the test about yourself?
ReplyDeleteI scord highest in Music, Mathmatics, and body. I was weekest in the cadagories Naturalistic, Interpersonal, and visual. my Linguistics and intrapersonal aspect for pretty good as well.
Kalden Alexander
Question: were you surprised by any of your peaks or weeknesses.
ReplyDeleteI was actually surprised that I wasn't higher in my Linguistecs and in my Intrapersonal. I love to read to people and I am very un-social person. I was not surprised that I was very good in Music, however I was surprised on how well I did in Mathematics. I am very good at mathematics, but I surtainly don't prefure it to liturature.

1. Where are your "peaks" OR strengths?
ReplyDeleteI am a good learner and can learn in almost any enviroment.
2. How might this effect you in school? How might it help you or make things harder for you? It helps because I have no focus problems so I can learn.
3. Were you surprised by any of your peaks, or did your profile fit in with what you know about yourself?
I probably fit in pretty well, but there might have been a couple things that our a bit off.
-Max
1. Where are your "peaks" OR strengths?
ReplyDeleteMy peaks or high scores:
Naturalist-23
Interpersonal-23
Linguistic-31
Music-30
2. How might this effect you in school? How might it help you or make
How this might effect me in school is one of my highest scores was in music so I like to hum tunes in my head so when I'm taking a test sometimes I get distracted from the tune or jingle or tune I'm singing. How this might help me in school is I'm also a linguistic learner which means I like to read write and tell stories and I learn by seeing, hearing, and saying words.
3. Were you surprised by any of your peaks, or did your profile fit in with what you know about yourself?
I was surprised that I scored high in music and linguistics because in my old school we took a similar test and I scored really low on music and linguistic. because I wasn't really into music and I didn't enjoy reading books.

5>How do you think my intelligences that might effect how I am as a teacher?
ReplyDeleteIt might effect the way you teach your students. If your a strict or fun teacher. The way you look at things and the way you study things.
